12 PM. Some call it midnight, other the witching hour. Micah Ulysses Richards just called it escape-time.
He'd never been a very good runner even when he'd been human, always prone to falling down onto the track and tripping other races. It was even harder now, as he had to make extra sure that, while he raced as far from his madness-inducing room with it's padded walls and lightless interior, that one or both of his legs didn't pop out of their sockets and fall quivering onto the linoleum. It had already happened to one of them, and Micah had to spend 20 valuable seconds hopping back over to it, picking it up, and securing it back onto his bloody thigh.

His mouth was covered in grayish goop—the leftovers from the nurse who, up until a few minutes ago, had been the one to push his and Lionel's food through the little metal flap on his door. The nurse had been delicious, though his brains could have used some honey or cinnamon. Lionel had loved them, too, but then, Lionel would eat anything as long as you sprinkled some blood on it.

After he'd managed to both finish his meal and get the door to his cell open, he turned to his beloved dog and told him to stay and that he would be back soon with all sorts of good things to eat. The zombie canine had tried to follow him, of course, but after a stern reprimand, Mac managed to get the creature to stay.

Micah looked down at the cracked face of his watch. That'd been ten minutes ago. Someone was bound to find the nurse soon, ears missing and open cranium licked clean. They'd know it was him without even having to look it up—he and Lionel were the only zombies he knew of in this asylum place—and they'd sent out a search party. Truth be told, the dead teen didn't care. Any punishment they gave him would be worth this little taste of freedom.

The zombie barreled around the corner, ratty old Vans screeching against the linoleum and leaving curved black streaks in their wake. Huffing and puffing, he sprinted down hallways, dodging nurses and insomniac patients. His taste buds screamed at him, begging for a taste of more grey matter, but somehow he managed to ignore them. He needed to find a safe place to hide, and soon—he heard someone scream bloody murder far off in the distance.

He was durning down a darkened corridor now, and he felt his knees beginning to shake. After a few more swift strides, he felt something beneath him snap. The dead boy tumbled face-first onto the floor. Gritting his teeth against the immense pain, he looked behind him and groaned. The toes of each foot had gotten caught on an uplifted tile of linoleum, and his weary legs had snapped in half. Mac stuck out his tongue at his legs, which were still frozen upright.

"Stupid legs." He grumbled, then fell back onto the floor. He was finished. Unless someone found him, took pity on him, and carried him away somewhere safe, he'd be back in his cell in as soon as ten minutes. "Stupid, lazy legs…"

She wasn’t meant to be up. She was meant to be asleep in her bed, like all the other nut cases in this crazy place. But Corey liked the dark, she liked the fact that at night she could walk down the halls and think to herself in peace, she liked that no one would bother her and that while everyone else was asleep. She got to be free. She’d only been out for about half an hour, she wasn’t menace but the fact she always seemed to light things on fire meant she always needed someone watching her, or always needed to be around liquid, whichever. She was tip-toeing down the corridors, her black tutu stuck out but you shouldn’t see it in the dimly lit place. She’d done the hard part, walking out past the staff dorms and making sure no one saw you! She’d been successful. Someone had come out of the room, holding a coffee but she’d hidden just in time, amber eyes watching whoever it was until they’d flopped down the hall, most likely to go to bed.

So Corey was prancing up the hall, the cold linoleum hitting her bear feet, her tutu bouncing as she walked happily down the corridors. Her hands were on fire, I lie, they were burning again, she was happy she was alone and she was free. Corey stopped suddenly; it looked like someone was on the ground, her heart immediately leapt out of her body, what happened if it was nurse or someone else who was going to yell at her, or someone who constantly teased her? Still, her this were better then that. But she was going to go about this carefully. Taking slow, graceful steps forwards Corey watched the figure curiously, the head went up and down, and she heard it mumble something but couldn’t make out the words. Well this was strange. “Hello?” she asked in her usual eerie tones amber eyes searching for something. As she moved closer, she could see it was a boy, he didn’t look too big, and in fact he didn’t look to old, maybe her age, so he wasn’t a nurse. Sighing with relief, Corey bent down as she was only a few feet away from him. “Are you alright?” she shifted so she was lying on her stomach, arms tucked into her sides staring at him.

He didn’t look right, he didn’t look, human in fact he didn’t look like anything she’d seen in this place, but she wasn’t about to go judging him, I mean after all people tormented her for being an outcast among a group of outcast. It felt horrible to be ridiculed. About to say something else, this was a first she didn’t normally speak to much, Corey stopped and perked up her ears as she heard feet rushing down the hall way. By the look of this kid, he probably shouldn’t have been out, but it seemed he was either hurt or being really lazy, either way, if they were found they’d both get in trouble and Corey didn’t want to be locked in her room again. Rushing down the hall she almost bumped into a tall, angry looking nurse. “Nurse!” she said, grabbing the nurses arm quickly, but the nurse pulled away swearing at the heat she’d felt “Oh Sorry, but there’s been an emergency call on the first floor, someone’s broken into the front office and been going through files!” Corey’s was hoping to hell inside that she believed her, but it wasn’t often she lied so there was no reason not to. The nurse looked skeptical and grunted and said something about going straight back to her dorm. Corey nodded nervously and walked away, around the corner as the footsteps got quieter. “Are you alright, can I help you?” she whispered, a few feet back from the boy.
